At 6th International Mathematics Competition

With the participation of 104 students from 28 schools, Görece 6th International Maths Competition without Limits was held on the meaningful day celebrated as the Teacher’s Day, 24th of November, when Great Leader Atatürk was entitled as “Headmaster”.

The popularity of the competition is increasing dramatically each year. This year the students from Poland and Bulgaria also took part in the competition. The students from 28 schools in Izmir and neighbouring provinces contested under 4 main categories. The questions have been prepared by the following instructors of Department of Mathematics, Izmir University of Economics, serving as Scientific Consultants for 3 years: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ünal Ufuktepe, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Adıvar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gözde Yazgı Tütüncü, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Ebru Özbilge, and Research Assistants Göknur Yapakçı, Hande Tunçel, Demet Ersoy, Cihangir Kan, Kerem Türkyılmaz and Fatih Akıcı.

In this opening statement Prof. İsmihan Bayramoğlu ,the Dean of The Faculty of Science and Literature and The Head of The Department of Mathematics in Izmir University of Economics addressed that ‘’You have already won the competition by participating.This is not only a competition. Mathematical thinking will give you the power and will make you free.I advise you to not to give up studying mathematics In the opening ceremony Ahmet Önal ,The Subgoverner of Menderes stated that they will support the seventh competition which will be held next year.Mr Abdülmecid Akkoyun,the District National Education Director stated that they will also support this competition next year.

Mayor of Görece, Mustafa Öztürk who is also a math teacher stated that he was glad for conducting the 6th math competition in a festival athmosphere cooperating with Izmir University of Economics, and he also extented his gratitude to whom contributing to this organization.

The winners of the competition are as follows. 

1st. Category (5th and 6th grades)

First place:Barkın Taşkıran, İzmir Özel Fatih Koleji

Second place:Ahmet Kağan Başkaya, Özel Yamanlar Özyurt İ.Ö.O.

Third place:Osman Akar, Özel Yamanlar Özyurt İ.Ö.O.

2nd.Category (7th and 8th grades)

First place:Ahmet Sönmez,Yamanlar Koleji

Second place:Muhammed Talha Uyar , Özel Yamanlar Işık İ.Ö.O

Third Place:Ahmet Yasin Yitik, İzmir Özel Fatih Koleji

3rd.Category  (9. and 10. grades)

First place:Lukasz Chrzanovski, Poland

Second place:Ali Osman Selek, Erbakır Fen Lisesi

Third place:Utku Arık, İzmir Fen Lisesi

4th.Category (11 and 12 grades)

First place:   Semih Yavuz, Karşıyaka Özel Yamanlar Koleji
